
In the year 1970 Stevie Wonder left MoTown and released two albums on his own by himself. Berry Gordy was shocked when Stevie Wonder told him this. Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's request for greater freedom and creative control over his songs. In 1972 Stevie Wonder returned to MoTown records and signed a thirteen million dollar deal with MoTown Records. This entitles Stevie Wonder to a higher royalty rate as well as greater creative control and rights to his own songs, that very few artists had during that time. Wonder's songs now could discuss controversial issues like poverty,war and drugs. The album he released in 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first to be released under his new MoTown deal. Talking Book, Stevie Wonder's 1972 album, is a significant moment in the history of music. The album featured Superstition The number one chart-topping song of the year.
